New Zealand's active manuka honey is used as a natural product both internally and topically on the skin. When pure, it has a Unique Manuka factor (UMF) which refers to an antibacterial agent produced naturally by the nectar of some strains of manuka plants., though not all brands carry this. Manuka Honey works against a wide range of bacteria including the causes of stomach ulcers, sore throats (when mixed with marshmallow) and major wound infections (when mixed with aloe vera). This honey has also been shown to be effective in helping the natural healing of skin ulcers, burns, boils, cracked skin and the "superbug" MRSA.
