The Heritage Seed Library (HSL), a Garden Organic project, aims to conserve and make available vegetable varieties that are not widely available. The HSL maintains a collection, mainly of European varieties.
Over the decades many varieties have been dropped from popular seed catalogues.
Garden Organic's collection contains many of these but also some landraces and a large number of family heirloom varieties that have never been in a catalogue.
This is not a gene bank and all the collection, once there are enough seeds will become available to the members.
Currently there are around 800 accessions of open-pollinated varieties, of which about 200 are in HSL Seed Catalogue which is sent free to members each year.
Members receive their choice of up to six varieties and there is also an informal Seed Swap section run between members themselves.
By becoming a member not only are you able to grow, taste and smell these important varieties, but you are also directly contributing to their preservation.
Without the support of our members many of these varieties would simply disappear forever.
How to use the voucher?
1- Once you receive your Giv'Organic voucher, give your details to the provider by Post or via Email.
2- Give the code written on the voucher.
3- Receive your package at home.
The voucher is valid for 10 months from the date of purchase.
